Filing A Stolen Cell Phone Insurance Claim

Theft of cell phones is a common occurrence these days. Years ago, the thieves seemed to like expensive cell phones. However, this situation is changing as majority of the thieves began concentrating on conventional cell phone models. Stealing electronic gadgets is a crime and strict punishments await these people. In order to safeguard yourself from an unlikely situation, you have to opt for cell phone insurance packages. In the succeeding sections, I will outline certain steps that you must resort to before making a cell phone insurance claim.

Once you realize that the cell phone was stolen, it is better to inform the authorities. Informing them will prove to be advantageous. For instance, when you file for a claim, you will be asked to produce documents. You must include the documents given away by the authorities along with the insurance papers. By doing so, you are merely proving yourself as a truthful and law abiding citizen. This will enhance the chances of the insurance company allocating a replacement phone or the assured sums very swiftly. Losing a cell phone can cause mental anguish because you will feel that you are cut off from the rest of the world.

Certain cellular companies give away cell phone insurance packages at nominal costs. If your cellular service provider does not support such services, it is imperative that you must choose a suitable insurance package from an independent insurance company. I explicitly state both the scenarios for a specific reason. You will have to proceed accordingly because the terms and conditions laid out by the cellular company might perhaps differ from those of an independent insurance agency. Read the offer documents properly before making that pivotal phone call to your insurance company (or cellular service provider's customer care number).

While filing the claim, please be sincere in pointing out the factors. Sometimes, you might be asked to fill out a report outlining the circumstances that led to the unfortunate events. Bear in mind that the insurance company personnel handles countless cell phone theft claims. They have the expertise to recognize the truthfulness of the situation. If they find your claim to be genuine, you will be given a new replacement phone within days of filing the original claim. Certain companies might send the new phone directly to your residential address.

The deductible amount (which is usually less than $100) will be charged - the amount is dependent upon the make, model and age of the cell phone. Certain insurance and cellular companies will set a limit over the number of times you can claim for insurance coverage. Usually this number is two - if this count has expired, then you have no other option than to invest in a new cellular contract from the service provider. Finally, it is imperative that you must have easy access to all the insurance records. As I had mentioned earlier, almost all the records will have to be submitted while proceeding with the insurance claim. Please keep us posted with your experiences.
